Pink Batts have been manufactured in New Zealand since 1973, and for many New Zealanders the brand is synonymous with insulation for ceilings, walls and underfloor. While the brand is not without competition in New Zealand from both imported and locally manufactured brands, Pink Batts continues to dominate a significant portion of the commercial and domestic or ‘retro’ market. Shaun Suleman from Pricewise Insulation was upbeat in his assessment, despite the widely report slow up-take of the rebate. “With anything new, and especially considering that landlords also do need to foot part of the bill, it’s probably not that surprising that the intial uptake was a bit slow,” he said. “It’s a bit different to the scheme which was rolled out in Australia in mid-2009. There the insulation was practically free, and it threw the market into chaos as a result.”
While landlords are advised to act now to take advantage of the rebates on offer, there’s no doubt that it’s the tenants who will be the most thankful in the short term. Thousands of renters who had earlier resigned themselves to their fate of being stuck in a cold, damp, uninsulated house, will enjoy feeling the effects of ‘Warm Up’ both in the increased temperature within their homes, and also the reduced energy costs that follows hand in hand with the proper installing of thermal insulation.
