Los Angeles, CA – December 20, 2017 –
TriCoast Entertainment has a knack for Canadian films.
USA film-goers have been hit with a wave of Canadian horror from indie distribution and production company, TriCoast Entertainment’s horror division, ‘DarkCoast, with two nerve-rendering shocks and super-creepy gore scare films, “THE SUBLET” and “LET HER OUT”.
TriCoast Entertainment / DarkCoast’s partnership with Canadian’s newest independent production house, Black Fawn Films, brought both works from the horror film hub of Canada to the USA with the aim to reinvent the ‘70s classic Canadian genre “canuxploitation” for a new generation of fright-of-their-life and blood-gushing horror films.
John Ainslie’s “THE SUBLET” is a psychological thriller capturing the start and end of a newly married couple, starring Tianna Nori (“The Demolisher”), Mark Matechuk (“Almost Adults”), Krista Madison (“The Dirties”, “Operation Avalanche”), and Rachel Sellen (“Silent Hill: Revelation”). Cody Calahan’s evil twin film, “LET HER OUT” combines components of a psychological thriller with gory, striking visuals with exhilarating performances by Alanna LaVierge, Nina Kiri (“The Haunted House of Kirby Road”, “Geek Charming”) and Adam Christie (“Antisocial”) who capture ultimate terror through the overarching eerie message – you cannot escape terror because it lives within.

And for TriCoast Entertainment, Canadian psychological thrillers don’t end there.
Directed and written by Jeff Kopas (“An Insignificant Harvey”, “Dogasaur”, “The Other Side”) alongside Doug Taylor (“Splice”, “A Christmas Horror Story”, “Darknet”) comes Canada’s newest indie, creepy and dark psychological thriller, “BLOOD HONEY”, to USA audiences in 2018.
BLOOD HONEY” follows a young woman, (‘Jenibel Heath’ played by Shenae Grimes-Beech) on her return to her family’s mysterious, secluded island lodge to help her sibling care for their dying father.
Jenibel’s return prompts her childhood trauma from witnessing her mother’s suicide to take control over her life both emotionally and physically, as she is unable to grasp the difference between reality and her current living nightmare.
“The film is filled with gorgeous cinematography showing off this remote home which is reached only by flying in a seaplane. Almost reminiscent of a Northern Exposure type community, except eerie and creepy. There’s a constant unsettling score back-dropping the entire movie and setting so we know despite the beautiful, serene location, nothing is actually right. We also never go long without shots of her dead mother or scenes of her mother jumping to her death,” wrote Anne Campbell for Film Gate Reviews.
Initially released by the Canadian film distributor Northern Banner Releasing (a side-arm of Raven Banner Releasing), “BLOOD HONEY” had its world premiere in Toronto during September 2017 at Cineplex Yonge-Dundas with following screenings in Vancouver and Calgary, and has a VOD + DVD release date of January 29th, 2018.
“What works here is the vein of mistrust throughout that keeps you guessing, and the constant dysfunction all the characters experience, especially Jenibel’s emotional torment. Plagued with waking dreams, we’re never sure what is real and what is a figment of her imagination, making her quest to fulfill her father’s wishes that much more difficult,” wrote Cinema Axis.
With an excellent, captivating, and unique Canadian cast, “BLOOD HONEY” stars Shenae Grimes-Beech, notable for her role in the CW’s revival of TV drama series “90210”, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, and “Scream 4”, alongside Gil Bellows, film-famous for the 1994 classic, “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Unthinkable” with Samuel L. Jackson, and “Unthinkable” with Jennifer Lawrence.
The film’s continued star-studded cast includes Kenneth Mitchell (“Star Trek: Discovery” (2017/18 TV series), ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth”, “Jericho”, “The Astronaut Wives Club”), Don McKellar (“The Sensitive Skin”, “Blindness”, director of “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), Morgan Kelly (“A History of Violence”, “Being Erica”, “The Lookout”), Natalie Brown (“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, “Dawn of the Dead”, “The Strain”), and Rosemary Dunsmore (“Orphan Black”).
“BLOOD HONEY” will be available on VOD + DVD beginning next year, January 29th, 2018.
