After another successful Holiday selling season comes to a close, the buying team at Westport Big & Tall prepares for yet another trade show season. This time, the team will be looking at merchandise for the Fall and Holiday 2018 selling season. From the last couple of weeks of December through early February, the Westport buying team will be viewing menswear from dozens of vendors and manufacturers, making key product and merchandising decisions, and creating the exclusive collections for the Fall and Holiday 2018 catalogs.
This year’s buying season started with visits to two of Westport’s exclusive branded partners: Peter Millar and Mountain Khakis. Just like Westport itself, both of these high-end clothing companies are headquartered in North Carolina.
Located in Raleigh, Peter Millar has been making a name for itself as one of the most sought-after brands in the men’s lifestyle apparel market. Their clothing embraces a classic, old-world style with plenty of modern appeal. Everything they make exhibits nothing short of superior detailing, craftsmanship, and attention to detail – making them a perfect partner for Westport. With the Raleigh buying trip concluded, Westport has just completed curating their collection of Peter Millar’s big and tall menswear for Fall and Holiday 2018. It features updated versions of a few familiar favorites as well as many new fashion styles, and it’s available in big and tall only at Westport.
Another exclusive partner visited early in the buying season was Mountain Khakis, headquartered in Westport’s own home city of Charlotte, NC. Mountain Khakis is a rugged outdoorsman’s brand that’s both playful and adventurous. They make clothes that look great, are extremely comfortable, and have the quality to stand up to the harsh elements. Mountain Khakis is a newer exclusive partner for Westport, but what really set them apart from other outdoor brands in the market was their genuine dedication to creating great products, and the extra touch of personality they put into everything they do. Westport Big & Tall’s Mountain Khakis Collection for the next season has just now been prepared. It has something to please everyone from the casual outdoorsman to the city dweller with an eye for functionality and comfort.
With two of its major exclusive vendors completed, Westport’s buying team will turn its sights on the New York trade shows in mid-January. MRket and Project New York are some of the largest conventions in the industry, housing booths from hundreds of independent brands, all which feature the latest menswear fashions. As always, both of the shows are combined under the roof of the sprawling Javits Convention Center in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. This, and at the Chicago Convention in early February, is where the bulk of Westport’s product selection and merchandising decisions will be made.
Project NY features the newest in contemporary menswear, premium denim, and high-end designer collections. It’s a great place to shop for not only menswear, but accessories as well. MRket New York is the more established, global convention that features many of the top upscale menswear brands on the market today. Clothing, shoes, and accessories can be found throughout, along with various sub-sections, such as the fashion-forward Vanguards Gallery and the Italia section.
