Superposition II, An All-Girls and Non-Binary Hackathon to be Held at the Horizons School of Technology on March 17-18, 2018

Middle school, high-school, college young women and non-binary folks have a great opportunity to learn and participate in an open, supportive Bay Area environment at Superposition II. Attendance is free.

FEBRUARY 06, 2018 – The long-standing idea that the tech field is a male-dominated domain is being challenged in an inspirational, creative, and powerful way.  Taking up the challenge in California is Superposition II, who after holding a successful hackathon in June 2017, recently announced March 17-18th dates for Superposition II to continue the new tradition.

Taking place at the Horizons School of Technology, Superposition II will be jam-packed with 200 middle school, high school, and college young women and non-binary folks and is expected to be fun, information packed and eye-opening.  With the event set to become the biggest all-female and non-binary hackathon in San Francisco, the excitement surrounding the two days is skyrocketing.

“At Superposition I, we were able to see first-hand the impact that our hackathon has had on our attendees,” commented Alianza Clyne, Superposition II’s Outreach Director.  “At Superposition I we saw girls who initially had absolutely no passion for coding leave our event wanting to major in computer science. We strongly believe that having racial and gender diversity in the tech space is critical to ensuring that the technology platforms that are being created truly reflect the needs of everyone, and we know that Superposition II will have the power to positively influence the lives of hundreds of young women across the Bay Area.”

According to the organizers, the free hackathon is looking for attendees, mentors, Campus Ambassadors, and volunteers all to participate and help make it a rousing success.  Food, workspace, Wi-Fi, and lots of swag will all be available free of charge.  The chance this gives to Bay Area young women to “plug into” the local tech-world in a real way is a rare one, with most hackathon’s being boy-centric events, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Feedback from Superposition I was resoundingly positive.

An attendee of the hackathon remarked in a five-star review, “Attending Superposition I truly changed my life. When I initially signed up to attend, I honestly thought this would be just like all the other hackathons I have attended in the past, but this hackathon was different. When I walked into the venue, I was met with a supportive atmosphere. Not only did I have several amazing mentors available to assist, but I could also turn to all of the girls around me for assistance. For the first time in my life, I was surrounded by so many supportive young women who are just as passionate about tech as I am. Since attending the hackathon, I have been on a mission to get more girls in my community interested in tech.”

Superposition II’s consistent effort to make a change in the tech landscape has resulted in the event and its organizers being honored at KQED’s Stepping Up Youth Media Challenge.
