New Young-Adult Novel \’Sam\’s Theory\’ Aims to Rejuvenate and Strengthen Kids with Trauma and Abuse Histories

Young kids today are looking for validation of their simple beliefs and inner values. Many kids are also going through horrible situations involving neglect, abandonment and abuse. In these times, more than ever before, children need to be introduced to stories that give them strength and a re-affirmation of values. Sarah Mendivel has done this with her debut novel, ‘Sam’s Theory’.

When stores of children suffering from pain and abuse are brought forth, they bring out courage and resilience in kids who have faced similar ordeals. ‘Sam’s Theory’ is a Young Adult novel with such therapeutic elements, written exclusively for foster youth, teens and adults with abuse histories.

Fifteen-year-old Sam must run away from home to protect her life after facing horrendous abuse. She travels to the Olympic Mountains in Washington, and comes across a mysterious tree house in the woods. There she finds an old woman named Theory. Theory introduces Sam to some magic and sage advice, launching her on a healing journey. Sam now discovers her powers, but also realizes that her sister Nova too is in danger. She connects with her friends from foster care, and together the group forms a hidden camp in the forest, ‘The Orphan’s Collective’. The fate of numerous kids left behind by adults is now ready for a transformation.

“A tale that sincerely and effectively advocates human connection and empathy in dealing with trauma,” says Kirkus Review.

“With this novel, I am trying to reach out to as many kiddos as possible to re-empower them!” says Sarah.

Sarah Mendivel, MS, has spent her career advocating for kids with difficult histories. In ‘Sam’s Theory’, she uses her experience and skills to introduce kids to empowerment techniques to bring forth their innate resilience, strength and kindness, and do away with the negative force of anonymity.

‘Sam’s Theory’ is a work that can be introduced in high schools, in-patient psychiatric units, residential homes and psychotherapy with psychiatry clients. The work is now available on Amazon.
