Celebrity Wellness Expert Rebecca Kordecki Provides Schools With The Power of Breathwork Campaign aims to arm students & faculty with mindfulness, not fear

March 5, 2018 – Rebecca Kordecki, a Los Angeles based celebrity wellness expert, will lead a day of breathwork coaching for faculty & students at West Jordan Middle School in West Jordan, Utah, on March 26th, 2018. The first event of an overarching campaign aimed at inspiring those in the school setting to be their most mindful selves, Rebecca hopes to inspire at-risk youth to rise above their circumstances by sharing her personal story of resilience.

Dixie Garrison, Utah’s Principal of the Year 2018, and the current Principal of West Jordan Middle School, invited Ms. Kordecki to brainstorm this new initiative for her staff and students in light of recent school tragedies. The need for a cultural shift, coupled with it being imperative to foster a new mindset on campuses everywhere, motivated Ms. Garrison to make space for a new program.

“I invited Rebecca to come work with both my students and teachers as part of my Mindful School Initiative. I attended Rebecca’s breathwork class at The Den Meditation Center in Los Angeles last month, and I knew after one session that I needed to bring her into my school. I personally felt that her breathwork coaching was more effective in alleviating traumatic memories than Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). It was very intense and it truly worked.”

“Breathwork is the fastest method to getting to the place meditation masters swear by, but most people can never reach, due to a squirming ‘monkey’ mind. With breathwork, you can tap in within 10 minutes and the effects are almost instantaneous,” says Kordecki.

Garrison’s school is already in its third year of practicing “Growth Mindset,” based on the work of Dr. Carol Dweck, PhD. “We determined that it was limiting beliefs amongst teachers and students that had perpetuated a culture of failure that was previously accepted by the students, teachers, and community here,” she says. Since then, working with school psychologist Dr. Olin Levitt to incorporate yoga, meditation, and “brain breaks” has allowed her students to properly manage stress, anxiety, and lack of connection or support.

What Kordecki’s breathwork coaching and demonstrations will bring to this school and all educational settings is a focused approach to promoting healthy minds and bodies to lessen the effects and pain of past traumas. Re-centering and alleviating anxiety is crucial in establishing a positive & consistently healthy school culture where everyone feels safe, they are able to tackle problems, and peacefully coexist. “Teachers are caretakers and not necessarily the best at self-care…” says Garrison. “Rebecca is an expert in this field, a consultant to take us to the next level; I’m confident it’s a model that the rest of the nation will adopt,” she says of Kordecki’s approach.

“For years, I’ve searched for a way to integrate my story of transformation into schools and bring awareness to how creating a mindful life allows one to be their own healer, anytime and anywhere,” says Kordecki. “I’m elated that Ms. Garrison invited me to share my knowledge; this is my perfect opportunity to give back and bring forth new wisdom to schools.”
