About Mystic CT
Mystic CT is one of New England’s most popular vacation destinations. It is a village comprised of two towns, Groton CT and Stonington that share the same zip code but is separated by a drawbridge, known as the Mystic River Bascule Bridge, along the Mystic River.
The name Mystic, as the modern spelling has it, derives from the Pequot term “missi-tuk”, describing a large river whose waters are driven into waves by tides or wind.
Although the first community of Mystic wasn’t named until around 1665, the first settlers in the Mystic area arrived some years earlier, about 1654. Mystic celebrates that year as its founding, and in 2004 celebrated its 350th Anniversary.
Mystic CT has a lot of amazing historical landmarks, including the Mystic River Drawbridge established 1835, the Mystic Seaport Established in 1929, the Mystic Railroad Station built in 1907, Historic Harbor Tour on the Mystic Express at 1 Holmes St. and The Historical 1717 House Museum on the Denison Homestead. Mystic CT offers great family fun, romance, and New England charm.
