Los Angeles, CA – May 11, 2018 –
“If you have the opportunity, See. This. Movie.” – Nightmarish Conjurings, Nikki Von Frankenstitch on ‘MUSE’.
CANNES ANNOUNCEMENT: TriCoast Worldwide’s horror label, DarkCoast is thrilled to represent writer/director John Burr’s (‘Boots’, ‘The Last Kill’) debut fantasy indie-horror ‘MUSE’ internationally at this year’s Cannes Film Festival Marché du Film.
‘MUSE’ is a haunted fairytale following a struggling painter, Adam (Riley Egan), whose artwork is in dire need for inspiration as his blank canvases begin to collect dust within his dilapidated DTLA loft. In a turn of whirlwind events, Adam’s life changes forever when he meets his artistic muse, who takes the form of a glimmering, mystical creatureand deadly spirit from Celtic lore, the Leannán Sí (Elle Evans), based upon the Gaelic legend of a mythical Celtic creature who chooses a human lover to protect and seduce. Silent, beautiful, yet extremely mysterious, the Leannán Sí embodies a “fairy-demon” who offers inspiration for Adam’s paintings and to fiercely protect him against any threats, in exchange for his love and devotion.
Adam’s art career begins to flourish and soar, as he can only credit his muse’s influence as the two fall into an intense love affair. Slowly, bodies are falling one by one, and when Adam runs into trouble with local thugs, the Leannán Sí continues to protect by murdering the thugs. Realizing just how far his muse is willing to go to and the ultimate violence she’s willing to inflict to save him, Adam’s moral compass is turned upside down, faced with choosing between his morality or his muse – his recent success, and most importantly, his inspiration. How far will the Leannán Sí go to protect her lover and can Adam live with her actions? Or will Adam try and stop her when she begins to protect him from the ones he loves?
“Muse is an alluring yet haunting experience – one you will not be able to take your eyes off.” – Close-up Culture’s James Prestridge, “Interview MUSE Director John Burr”, April 2018.
‘MUSE’ had its USA premiere in September at FilmQuest 2017, departing as with the honored nominee for the prestigious FilmQuest Cthulhu. Since, ‘MUSE’ has already achieved six wins, as the film departed the 2017 Horrorhaus Film Festival with three wins: Best Feature Film, Best Original Score and Best Original Screenplay. The film’s accolades continue with wins for Best Score (award winning Alexander Rudd, ‘Lady Boy, ‘Unknown’) at Sin City Horror Fest 2017 and Best Cinematography (ASC Award Winning Cinematographer, Damian Horan) at NOLA Horror Film Festival 2017.
Speaking upon exceptional, seven-time winner cinematographer, Damian Horan (‘The Relationtrip’, ‘Pottersville’, ‘Josephine and the Roach’) Horror Freak News’ Michael Klug reported ‘MUSE’ was“thoughtfully shot, artfully lit, with terrific locations,” highlighting his visual style and use of the loft’s light, adding, “The art gallery when Adam finds success and the very urban lofts where he lives – really offer up a gritty vision of city life and the meager and lonely existence of a struggling artist.” Klug also revealed that ‘MUSE’ was shot in its entirety in only 15 days.
‘MUSE’ is a fantasy horror that combines the supernatural, elements of a psychological thriller, and Irish legend and mythology influence that delivers jump scares and twists that will make you second-guess yourself. “MUSE is the representation of art in a physical form, and the importance of inspiration while cautiously examining how inspiration can be the downfall of any great artist […]Director John Burr has truly crafted a devastatingly tragic horror movie with ‘MUSE’, one I think should be discussed and, ahem, mused over, for years to come,” praised Boston Hassle’s Kyle Brunet.
DarkCoast and TriCoast Worldwide CEOs, Strathford Hamilton and Marcy Levitas Hamilton will represent Burrs’ ‘MUSE’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with TriCoast Worldwide’s booth will be located at Riviera D3.

‘MUSE’ credits its fantastic editing to longtime, legendary editors, Ed Marx (‘Jeepers Creepers’, ‘Frozen’) and Jeff Murphy (‘Justice’). The film’s lead, Riley Egan (‘All I Ever Wanted’), phenomenally embodies Adam, who struggles with his moral compass and the line between a hero and a villain. Alongside, ‘MUSE’ features a star-studded cast, including Elle Evans (‘The Love Witch’) with a spectacular dialogue-less performance, daytime Emmy winner, Kate Mansi (‘Days of Our Lives’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (‘Teen Wolf’), Phil Abrams (‘Insidious: Chapter 3’), and Jennie Fahn (‘SCTV’, ‘Black Christmas’).
