A two-decade veteran of America’s ever-evolving automotive industry, National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy graduate Rahim Hassanally looks back on his time in the program as he explains more about the process, its benefits, and his own personal experience.
“The academy program features six one-week classroom sessions, completed over the course of a year,” explains Hassanally, himself a National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy graduate. “The sessions, held at the National Automobile Dealers Association’s headquarters in Fairfax County, Virginia, are then combined with further hands-on practical work tied to various aspects covered by the program itself,” he adds.
Week one of the academy currently focuses on financial management, while weeks two and three focus on fixed operations. “Week four pertains to variable operations and is centered around pre-owned vehicles,” explains Hassanally, who graduated from the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy in 2006, “while the following week, attention is turned to new vehicles.”
Finally, week six of the academy centers around business leadership. “The last week is designed to allow National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy attendees to discover their individual leadership and management styles, and the impact that this can have on others,” Hassanally further reveals. “Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed my National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy experience, and throughout the decade or more since, I believe it’s been truly beneficial to my career,” he adds.
“The instructors, I recall,” Hassanally continues, “were all phenomenal, freely sharing their wealth of knowledge, and I still cherish many of the friendships which I made while partaking in the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy experience.”
The National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy today runs alongside the American Truck Dealers Association Academy, intended for current and future operators of truck dealerships.
“In contrast to the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy, while the American Truck Dealers Association Academy is also built around the latest and most relevant general automotive industry trends and developments, it’s much more deeply rooted in the core fundamentals required specifically to operate a successful truck business,” adds Hassanally, wrapping up.
A National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Academy graduate and a proud and committed member of the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers, presided over by Damon Lester, Rahim Hassanally is also a Governor of California appointed Department of Motor Vehicles New Motor Vehicle Board member, as well as a board member of the American International Automobile Dealers Association. An accomplished sportsman, a keen advocate for breast cancer awareness, and a supporter of a number of charities and good causes, Texas-native Hassanally’s other accolades include making the Automotive News ‘Top 40 Under 40’ list and receiving recognition as the 18th annual Urban Wheel Awards ‘Urban Dealer of the Year.’
