LAST WEEK TO SEE JAPANESE ANINMATION ‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’ IN U.S. THEATERS

VIOLENCE VOYAGER // DARKCOAST
‘VIOLENCE VOYAGER’ will screen nationwide until July 12th.

Los Angeles, CA – July 9, 2019 – “If you were out playing with your friend and you came across an old abandoned amusement park, would you explore it?” – Eye For Film.

From Writer/Director, Ujicha (The Burning Buddha Man), VIOLENCE VOYAGER (aka ‘Baiorensu boijâ’) is his second feature incorporating the unique 2-D animation technique, “Gekimation”, a detailed hand painted paper cutouts.

VIOLENCE VOYAGER “reveals a rabbit hole of biomechanical body-horror concealing a tragic tale — a past whose present has mutated beyond repair. Rife with nods to B-horror and kaiju fare, VIOLENCE VOYAGER is a brutally inventive nightmare born of a singular, disturbing vision,” wrote Village Voice.

Set in the present-day Japanese countryside, two friends, Bobby (Aoi Yûki) and Akkun (Shigeo Takahashi), set on an adventure to visit a friend on the other side of the mountain. Taking a shortcut, the friends soon stumble upon an amusement park called Violence Voyager. But when the friendly owner, Koike, lets them enter, grotesque mutation, dismemberment and ultimate scientific-chaos is unleashed. Working alongside the parks’ other captured children, together they must fend off a number of attacks as they gradually learn the truth behind the facility.

“Styled like the Ladybird Book of Cronenberg, this bizarre piece of Gekimation by unpredictable auteur Ujicha is presented in boy’s own adventure format, complete with snippets of authoritatively delivered narration which warn us what our young hero, Bobby, is about to experience, or comment on his future. There’s marvelous deadpan comedy in this, but you’ll need a strong stomach to get through the rest, which gets much more disturbing that you’d think would be possible given the format,” continued Eye for Film.
