New Urban Fiction ‘Life in the Big City’ Explores Dreams and Unconventional Careers in Brooklyn

March 23, 2020 Author and blogger Monet Rondel Ayla has come out with her latest work of fiction that will enthrall fans of urban stories and literature. ‘Life in the Big City’, which charts the story of Monique and the obstacles she faces in her journey towards an unconventional career, is now out and available on Amazon Kindle.

Monique is unlike other women who would have preferred taking the ‘normal’ route to a big career, just as her parents wished. Instead, she is a despondent, substitute teacher in a Brooklyn school. She keeps failing at interviews while in search of her dream job – working for a big city magazine. A tragic accident, however, changes her trajectory, and she must now work for a powerful fixer who forces her ascension to the top of her career like no one else before.

‘Life in the Big City’ is written in a style that puts the reader at ease, as they get engrossed in the story of Monique as she moves in and around Brooklyn. They will share her faults, like freezing up at interviews, not landing the job of her choice or the challenges of a teaching career.

A freak accident leaves Monique in a strange situation. She wakes up to a life she doesn’t remember and is now the head of a magazine and a great lifestyle. She continues to interact with the new people and gets face to face with the things that are truly important to her.

“The author writes in a unique fashion…” says reviewer Susan Wise.

An excerpt from ‘Life in the Big City’: “Those rough streets of Brooklyn were designed for the strong-willed. The bumps and cracks on the road could only be endured by those with the tenacity to do so. As Monique walks along the busy streets, her steps are wavering from the sidewalks to the road. Winter was ending…”

Life in the Big City’ is available from Amazon Kindle.
