Yohance Salimu overcame life challenges that have consumed millions of people across the globe to become the best possible version of himself. Following the achievement of his lifelong dream of becoming an entrepreneur and CEO, Yohance is looking to give back to society, a decision that inspired the creation of Geospatial Q & A, Inc.
Millions of people in different parts of the world struggle with all kinds of issues, such as poverty, homelessness, and hunger. Over the years, there have been increasing calls demanding a system change to ensure a more equitable distribution of resources. However, the calls have been followed up with relatively little action, which is where Yohance Salimu is looking to make a difference with Geospatial Q & A, Inc.
Born to Abdala Salimu and Tabia Salimu, Yohance grew up in South Central Los Angeles, California, and was exposed to gangs, drugs, and violence. Growing up, he was homeless with his younger brother and mother after losing their housing in 2008. However, the family did not let the challenges overwhelm them, with Yohance’s mother and brother spending time in and out of shelter while Yohance participated in after-school activities, which included robotics at FIRST, a Youth-Serving 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization, where he met his mentors – Tim Wright and Urban Reyes. Yohance interned at the Aerospace Corporation and was able to save up to buy an apartment for his mother and brother.
Yohance Salimu graduated from Crenshaw High School in 2011, where played football before attending the United States Air Force Academy. He won 3 championship medals and a bronze in boxing and was commissioned as an officer into the Air Force as a part of the fifty-eighth graduating class of USAFA in 2016.
Yohance Salimu founded Geospatial Q & A, Inc. with a sole purpose – to become the change the world needs, via the Research and Implementation it deserves. Focusing on a younger audience between the ages 14 and 19, Yohance aims to inspire as many people as possible to succeed. In addition to launching the Delaware Charitable Nonstock Exempt Corporation, Yohance Salimu is also an author.
Yohance Salimu is the author of “Underprivileged Overachiever – A Crenshaw Story,” a chronicle of his life story, which has been the subject of several media stories, including The Los Angeles Times. The book has also continued to receive positive reviews from readers across the globe.
As an athlete, Yohance Salimu has received several awards, including the 2016 Wing Open Heavyweight Champion, 2015 NCBA All-American Heavyweight Bronze, 2015 NCBA Regional Heavyweight Champion, and 2015 Wing Open Heavy Champion.
