It is tough to find a tactical backpack that you can use in the field, but is equally at home in a coordinate environment. A military style backpack generally draws sideways glances at the office. 3V Gear is attempting to change that with their new Transit Redline EDC Backpack.
“We are trying to blend form and function with this new style of backpack,” says Kirk Sample, Marketing Director for 3V Gear. “Many of our customers want the function of a tactical backpack, but they don’t necessarily want the look of a tactical backpack. In today’s environment, military style bags can bring unwanted attention, potentially putting the user at risk.”
The Transit Redline EDC Backpack is a 40 liter backpack that has a loads of features and an incredible amount of organization. One of the unique features of this backpack is the zipper system on the main pocket. This dual YKK zipper zips completely around the backpack so it will lay completely flat. This is great for loading the backpack with gear as you aren’t restricted to loading the bag from the top. You can also place the zippers on the side of the bag, giving you side access without removing the bag from your shoulder.
The EDC part of the name stands for everyday carry and that is what this bag is designed for. With a large admin panel and a variety of pockets, you can easily carry all the gear and tech you need for the day. A large padded laptop sleeve will fit up to a 17” laptop or doubles as a holder for your hydration reservoir. A secondary organization pocket on the side of the pack gives you additional zippered mesh pockets to keep your tech organized as well as additional stash pockets.
A unique feature to the new 3V Gear Redline is the lining of the backpack. They went with a hi-vis interior and had a topographical map of the Wasatch Mountain Range custom printed. 3V Gear is based at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains and the printing is an homage to where they come from.
The Transit also makes a great travel bag. It meets the TSA’s requirements for a carry on bag and has a few additional features which makes this backpack ideal for travel. The first is the bags shape. With more people only using carry on luggage, the overhead space is a premium. The narrow profile of the bag allows you to turn the bag on its side to fit into tight spots or place it under the chair in front of you. There is also a luggage trolley pass-through that lets you to carry the bag on top of your rolling luggage. The other unique feature is the hidden pocket at the base of the back of the backpack. This is perfect for concealing your wallet, passport, or other important items .
“We created dozens of prototypes of this bag and used them extensively,” says Kirk. “We traveled all over the US with them and even carried them to Europe and Asia. The Transit makes a great carry-on travel bag.”
The evolution of tactical backpacks is definitely changing and 3V Gear is pushing this even further with their new line of packs and backpacks. If you are looking a non-descript tactical backpack that you can travel with or use everyday, the Transit Redline EDC Backpack may be a great option for you.
