LONGWOOD, Fla. – Nov 10, 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 health crisis, Track Shack and Insurance Office of America (IOA) have modified this year’s IOA Corporate 5k. Now a virtual event, the annual walk/run will take place from November 12 to 15.
The IOA Corporate 5k is an athletic event exclusive to businesses and nonprofits in Central Florida. Proceeds from the event are donated to support local charities: Track Shack Youth Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and the Christian Service Center’s Love Pantry.
IOA has sponsored the 5k and worked with Track Shack to support event beneficiaries since 1995. In an attempt to safely preserve the race, Track Shack and IOA initially postponed the 2020 date from Thursday, April 9 to Thursday, October 1. After revisiting their decision, the Central Florida-based organizations agreed that additional revisions were necessary.
“The decision to hold this year’s race virtually wasn’t an easy one to make,” said IOA Co-founder John Ritenour. “But it has enabled participants to join in wherever they are and support our IOA Corporate 5k beneficiaries in these incredibly difficult times.”
Instead of gathering at a Central Florida location, participants will virtually record their progress using Real-Time Remote Racing (RTRT) on the Track Shack Tracking & Timing app. This allows teams and individuals to run or walk from the location of their choosing.
Over 6,000 runners and 390 teams have registered for the 2020 IOA Corporate 5k Virtual. In addition, more than 20 companies submitted to this year’s Best T-Shirt Design contest — held through the Corporate 5k Facebook page. Having raised over $20,000, the 2020 IOA Corporate 5k Virtual is still on track to reach its $35,000 donation goal.
