The Melvin Brewing Scholarship Announces The 2021 Winner

A Wyoming-based scholarship program founded by Melvin Brewing recently announced its winner for 2021. The awardee will receive $ 1,000 which will be applied in the fall semester.

Jackson, Wyoming – April 21, 2021 – The Melvin Brewing Scholarship has chosen its winner for the academic year 2020-2021. Natalie, an incoming college junior at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri will be bagging the $ 1,000 financial grant.

College is a time of great sacrifices. One must muster enough discipline and resources to finish a degree, especially if an individual is finishing a 4 or 5-year program. As tuition fees continue to increase year after year, more students are struggling financially to get a quality education. Education Data studies show us that the average college student has about $ 40,000 debt left to be paid once they graduate.

This student debt crisis is one of the reasons why Melvin Brewing started its scholarship program. As a company founded from the ground-up, the beer craft organization believes that success happens when an individual gains knowledge and experience on things they are passionate about. No student must be left behind–everyone deserves to accomplish their dreams of pursuing higher education.

One of the core values of Melvin Brewing is strengthening the community. Acting upon these values, their philanthropic work involves providing an annual scholarship program for current and incoming U.S. college students. Recently, they started the Melvin Brewing Scholarship and received several entries from applicants all over the country. The 2021 essay prompt for students was: “How do you plan to use the funds from this scholarship in your journey to continue your education?”

After the selection process, the winner for the 2021 scholarship is Natalie from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. As an incoming Junior pursuing a Civil Engineering program, Natalie told her own experience about joining Engineers Without Borders (EWB):

“Engineers Without Borders pairs engineering students at participating universities with developing communities in need to provide life-changing public works projects. I joined EWB my freshman year and was immediately sucked in. On my team, we are working to design and build a school and public bathroom for our Guatemalan community. I stepped into the role of lead translator right away, moving on to lead the entire project by my sophomore year,” she mentioned.

Natalie attributed her life-changing experience in EWB to her desire to make a positive impact in the community.

“EWB has made a world of difference in my education experience. Not only do I have the opportunity to put the concepts I am learning in school into practice for real-world applications, but it reminds me of why I chose to pursue engineering in the first place. We are helping real communities with real projects that will improve their living conditions,” she added.

The young civil engineer student also mentioned how she would like to use the funds to continue her education and pursue her career that would further build underserved communities: “Given the chance, I would use these funds to cover the costs of my books, supplies, and wellbeing so that I may continue my education and further my impact on the world around me. With help, I can continue to help others.”

Melvin Brewing Scholarship is an annual scholarship program of the Wyoming-based beer company of the same name. The scholarship aims to give hope to students who want to uphold their communities through the higher education degree that they want to complete. By providing a yearly $ 1,000 financial assistance, the company desires to empower individuals who will fulfill essentials roles in the community.
