High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire – 4th November, 2021 – Neon has been seen everywhere this year. It was a feature on the catwalks in the spring fashion shows and celebrities weren’t shy about wearing it during the summer. As we enter autumn and the nights draw in and the days get darker, neon is a shade many are opting for to brighten things up.
Pinterest has had great success in predicting fashion trends, claiming that eight out of ten of its 2020 predictions came true. For 2021 Pinterest predicted LED neon lights would be at the forefront of interior design. With the searches on their site increasing by 800 percent they have been correct again. Thanks in part to TikTok, neon signs have been embraced by Gen Z in particular.
Neon has been described as a ‘brave choice’ and it can be easy to get it wrong and end up with a result that looks cheap and tacky. Chris Hinds from Neon Direct tells us the trick is to balance the effect. “You don’t want your neon sign to dominate the room but it should be a focal point. Too much neon can be overwhelming but if you choose a neutral background and pick accessories in the same shade as your sign it can look fantastic.”
Neutral colours such as grey and cream work well with neon. Surprisingly pastels can also be a good choice, especially if they are the same colour, such as lime and neon green together.
Thanks to the use of modern innovations such as LEDs, neon signs are affordable for all budgets. “The great thing about neon lights is that even a small sign can bring some vibrancy and fun into a room,” says Chris. Lucy Ackroyd, Head of Design at Christy agrees, suggesting that “LED light signs with fun, quirky sayings or lyrics that mean something to you are the perfect entry way into the neon trend”.
Neon lights have always been bright and flexible but the modern versions provide even more choice. Using the latest LED technology they are safer and more economical than ever before. Unlike traditional glass tubes, LED neon can change colour and is much more flexible, giving you more options when you are choosing a sign. “It’s always fun when someone comes to us with a unique design,” says Chris, “but we also find that our premade signs are also very popular. Our top sellers are ‘Welcome to the Madhouse’ and ‘Hello Gorgeous’ but recently ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ has seen a surge in popularity.”
Whatever design you may choose for your neon sign you can be sure that following this autumn fashion trend will definitely brighten up your room.
