ATLANTA, GA – November 11, 2021 – The VII Group and Beyond The Bench recently announced the 2021 Gateway Invitational – an HBCU mens basketball event that will tip off on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Gateway Arena in College Park, GA. As part of two showcase games presented by The VII Group, Norfolk State University and Tennessee State University will go head-to-head at 5:30pm ET, followed by Miles College vs. Oakwood University at 7:30pm ET. The event was created to provide HBCU basketball programs with a mix of exposure, support, and organic solutions for some of the realities faced by HBCUs on and off the court – realities that caught the attention of Mario Mays founder of Beyond The Bench and Christopher Williams, a former HBCU basketball player and President of The VII Group.
The desire to help led to a joint initiative between Beyond The Bench and The VII Group – the creator/operator of Holiday Hoopsgiving – one of the country’s best college and high school basketball events. Beyond the Bench focuses on helping students and communities maximize success beyond gameplay while The VII Group creates and operates some of the top basketball stages in the country with the group’s premier event programming. The two Gateway Invitational games will be streamed live and simulcast on HBCU League Pass and SUVtv as part of a first-of-its-kind broadcast partnership that will bring the action to the masses while supporting more autonomy and exposure for HBCU programming – specifically programming that offers greater connectivity with grassroots audiences. “We are excited to launch our HBCU basketball schedule in such a dynamic way!” says Todd F. Brown, Chief Executive Office of Urban Edge Network/HBCU league Pass.
As part of a first-of-its-kind FREE offering, HBCU League Pass will feature live & on-demand HBCU sports content available 24/7. The platform’s collaboration with SUVtv will bring an intriguing lineup of live broadcasts and original content that features HBCU, grassroots, and high school sports coverage from across the country.
