Author Cheryl Monique is a secondary school teacher brought up in the Caribbean. Her upbringing in the Caribbean formed the basis for her debut book. She published her memoirs titled Yellow Bird: A Memoir Volume One recently.
Her father believed that his actions were the will of God. The story has been written in a skillfully concise and frank manner by the author.
She writes in the book, “His death brought up many memories that I had already begun exploring to prepare for writing about the first 21 years of my life”.
Despite the ease of the language used, the story makes for a haunting read. This Memoir is also an example of the author’s strength and resilience that conveys an inspirational message: making peace with one’s past, however traumatic and difficult, is a way to heal and move forward in life.
Cheryl Monique now lives in France with her family. She teaches English as a second language at the local college, sharing her passion for different languages and cultures with her students. The author is working on her next book, the second volume of her memoirs, and studying for a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing.
