Scotty Roberts is a US based illustrator, designer and writer of fiction and non-fiction, and he has proudly announced the launch of yet another remarkable illustrated young adult book titled, The Sword in the Clay. This book is about Will Bird, a World War I soldier who found a 2000-year-old Roman sword in the mud after the bombardment of Amiens, France in 1917. The sword is from the period of Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. To introduce this book project to the world, Scotty has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and he is welcoming generous support and backing.
“The Sword in the Clay is a lushly illustrated, hardcover book for kids and adults, and I need your support to publish it.” Said Scotty Roberts, while introducing this project to the Kickstarter community. According to the author, the writing, designing, and illustrations of the book are complete, and the book is ready to go to press.
Moreover, the book is based on the true story of William Richard Bird, who found a 2000-year-old Roman sword in the churned up clay and mud after the bombardment of Amiens, France in 1917. After the war, this soldier became a renowned writer and published nearly 40 novels, memoirs, travel and history books before his death at age 94 in 1983.The story is also about the sword and it’s original owner, of whom we know nothing. Scotty created a plausible fictional ancient Roman character, Marius Abruzzo, to provide a backstory for the sword, to juxtapose against the true story of Will Bird. There is also a paranormal element to the book, in that Will Bird wrote about his encounters with the ghost of his younger brother, Steve, who had been killed during the war a couple of years earlier. Will claims that his brother’s spirit saved his life at Vimy Ridge.
