Daytona, FL – March 16, 2022 – The winner of the 2022 Marc Zboch Academic Scholarship has been announced today. This year, the $1,000 prize has been awarded to Lorenzo Cinalli, a highly deserving second-year graduate student from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Cinalli is studying for a Master of Arts degree in Environmental Resource Policy. He plans to use the scholarship award to continue his passion for public service and helping others.
In order to be considered for the 2022 scholarship, students were asked to write about a meaningful experience where they were able to help others. Lorenzo Cinalli described a number of enriching experiences with volunteering in various community initiatives, from building homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael in Florida to working as a Park Ranger in a National Park.
Cinalli is passionate about pursuing a degree in environmental resource policy because he wants to improve conditions for people who are suffering from natural disasters in their communities. He wants to increase community preparedness to make sure that the conditions he witnessed in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael can be avoided by others in the future.
In his essay, Cinally wrote, “I’ve devoted my career to public service and helping others. I am pursuing my graduate degree in environmental policy because I believe everyone deserves access to a safe and clean environment.”
Students like Lorenzo Cinalli are shining examples to their peers when it comes to understanding the true meaning of community service. Their dedication should be applauded. Cinalli states that the Marc Zboch scholarship will be “a critical piece of the puzzle that allows me to continue to pursue my educational goals.”
Looking Ahead to 2023
While this year’s $1,000 award has already been made, the scholarship is open for the upcoming 2023 academic year. Students who want to apply for the scholarship must be U.S. residents who are registered at a U.S. college or university for the Fall 2023 semester. Students may apply for consideration regardless of their major, GPA, or socioeconomic status.
For the next scholarship cycle, students who are applying will be required to write about a time when they made a sacrifice to help others. Students applying for the scholarship should know that their written answers to this year’s question will be closely read and compared to those of their peers.
The application deadline for next year’s scholarship award is February 1, 2023.
