The China Hangzhou Esports Center, which will be the esports venue of the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, was officially powered up on March 15.

The venue, which started construction on Sept 24, 2020, is the first of its kind in China. It covers an area of 80,000 square meters and can accommodate 4,087 spectators. One of its most unique features is its vortex-like ceiling.

With delicate planning and a careful layout, the venue is able to meet needs for both during and after the Asian Games.

“E-sports venues require extra electricity supply for its larger number of electronic devices and network maintenance,” said Lai Cong, a staff member of the Hangzhou branch of the State Grid.

The Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 has eight medal e-sports events: Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, Dota 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, EA SPORTS FIFA branded soccer games, HearthStone, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile Asian Games Version, and Street Fighter V.

Esports was included in the Asian Games for the first time as a demonstration sport at the 2018 edition in Jakarta, Indonesia, with China winning two gold medals and a silver medal.
