Anatoly Bezkorovainy emigrated to the US with his parents in 1951 and graduated from a Chicago public high school, before proceeding to the University of Chicago in 1956. He then entered the University of Illinois Graduate College, graduating in 1960 with a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry.
