Manufacturing journalist and founder of the 9000-member Manufacturing Media Consortium, Thomas R. Cutler, met with editors, publishers, and economists in New York City on last week to discuss the serious impacts on the supply chain due to the war. More than 100 members attended in person or remotely.
According to Cutler, “Of course the worst of the conflict is in Ukraine but will be felt worldwide for several years. This conflict is a humanitarian crisis which will have serious ripple impacts globally. Wheat will be in short supply and more than a million Africans are likely to starve to death due to heavy dependance on Ukrainian wheat. Sri Lanka, already in financial crisis just lost its biggest tea customer, Russia. These type of collateral economic impacts only exacerbate the humanitarian disaster promulgated by vicious cruelty. The media must cover the direct and indirect repercussions.”
Cutler shared the need for media content is stronger than ever because this story has legs that supersede the latest barbaric train bombs. Cutler noted that while reshoring and near-shoring have gained popularity during COVID, it has different context in a bellicose global environment impacting the industrial sector.
Thomas R. Cutler is celebrating the 23-year anniversary of the Manufacturing Media Consortium, a group of 9000+ editors, journalists, freelancers, economists, addressing the industrial sector.
