Los Angeles, CA – APRIL 26, 2022 – With so many applications submitted for consideration, the scholarship committee took the time to carefully weigh each application and narrow down their decision to one. “We were impressed by all of our applicants’ accomplishments and are excited that one has been selected as our 2021-2022 scholar,” said Nancy Etz, founder of the award.
Jennah Daley, a graduate student at Texas Tech University, is this year’s winner. Ms. Daley is working towards her Master’s of Science in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy.
Nancy Etz said that she wanted to make sure that no one else would have to struggle as she did when obtaining an education because it is not just about money but also about having the support of family members behind you and knowing what your future holds for you.
Ms. Daley submitted an essay answering the following question: Describe an area in your life where you demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles in either your school, society, or family life.
Her essay answer stood out from the rest. Her essay answer reads: “Growing up, my family often struggled to make ends meet. As a teenager, I felt the heavy burden to contribute to my family in any way that I could, including finances. Although I already had a part-time job, I knew there was more that I could do to assist.
“I decided to offer tutoring services for children of all ages in my neighborhood. It started out small with helping only one family, but soon I was tutoring multiple children of all different grade levels.”
This year’s scholarship award will apply to Ms. Daley in the fall semester of 2022. To know more about the annual program, please visit the official scholarship website.
