Vehicle History Launches Vehicle Warning Light Check Assistance

““While the idea was to make them easier to understand, the reality is that they are more incomprehensible than ever,” she said. “If one has a lightning bolt on it, the next one a square and the third one a triangle, it can be nearly impossible for anyone”

Vehicle History, a company founded to help people learn about buying and selling used cars, is launching a new service to help customers understand what the warning lights on their vehicles are telling them, it was announced yesterday.

“As technology has advanced, the number of warning lights in any given vehicle has increased,” said Vanessa Hernandez, a spokeswoman for Vehicle History. “While it used to simply be one light to tell you to have your engine checked, there are now often six or more different lights that can come on at any time. This can become very confusing for people.”

Adding to the confusion, she said, is the fact that car design dictates that the lights can be understood by as many people as possible, so they often have symbols on them instead of words.

“While the idea was to make them easier to understand, the reality is that they are more incomprehensible than ever,” she said. “If one has a lightning bolt on it, the next one a square and the third one a triangle, it can be nearly impossible for anyone to know what these lights mean.”

Starting today, consumers can go to the company site, VehicleHistory.com, and enter the make and model of their vehicle, she said. Then the site will display a guide to what the different symbols on each light mean.

“It could be that the car is simply trying to tell a driver to top up the windshield washer fluid,” she said. “Or it may be warning them about a seriously dangerous situation. Drivers need to know which, and we are happy to provide a vehicle warning light check that’s fast and easy.”

The warning light search service will be free of charge, she said.

“The goal here isn’t to make money,” she said. “It’s to help people stay safe on the road, and keep their cars running in tip-top shape.”
