S&S Technical has many client sites that load and unload barges bringing in feedstocks and shipping out finished products. With many projects requiring pumping and metering skid packages to move the products to and from storage and do custody transfer, the need for both loading arms and barge access systems also exist on most projects. To help business people in their efforts to work with a single source provider, S&S Technical is providing complete barge loading and unloading packages inclusive of barge loading arms and barge access gangways.
S&S has a full range of pump and meter skid packages to move products like tallow, plant based oils, gasoline/diesel, asphalt, chemicals, crude oil, ethanol and bio-fuels with coriolis, ultrasonic and turbine meters as well as compact provers for meter proving complete with all controls and automation. Barge loading arms are used to safely transfer those products to and from the barge.
Barge loading arms are designed to allow movement in all directions generated by tide change, wind, current, and other environmental conditions. Barge loading arms have brought a significant improvement in safety over a hose solution in the transfer operation of the product, eliminating concerns with hose ruptures and making it an easier task than handling hoses on the dock.
Barge loading arms are composed of rigid articulated piping, self-supported, fully balanced, and provide an easier, safer, and more ergonomic solution without the need for extra lifting, supporting equipment, or tools required with hoses. Barge loading arms also offer a longer service life with a low cost of ownership.
Operators must access the barges to connect the barge arm to the manifold system for product transfer. To safely do this, a barge access gangway is needed to go from the dock to the vessel. There are several types of barge gangways used for the task including stage gangways which are flat ramps and self-leveling stairs which can accommodate a wider range of elevation changes between the barge deck and the dock. Some barge gangways can be manually deployed, and some require power such as pneumatic cylinders or hydraulics to raise and lower equipment. S&S Technical can help design custom barge access gangways to meet their exact needs and specifications.
