Any form of creative expression takes considerable amounts of time, energy, and resources. For this reason, it is important for creative people to know how to defend their hard work against content thieves who copy the creative efforts of others for their selfish interests. Evan Butterfield, publisher and college instructor proves that in the creative field, imitation is not a compliment with the launch of his book, Copyright for Creatives: A Comprehensive Guide to Copyright Law for People Who Make Stuff.
Copyright for Creatives is a practical, real-world, easy-to-read book that discusses how copyright laws affect every day creative people and is written with them in mind. The book is designed specifically to address the concerns, challenges, and copyright interests of creatives such as artists, crafters, dancers, writers, hobbyists, photographers, multimedia content creators, and musicians, to mention a few. Copyright for Creatives provides hands-on common-sense guidance that creative individuals can follow to ensure the protection of their work, as well as prevent them from accidentally violating other people’s intellectual property rights along the way.
For more than three decades, Evan Butterfield has worked as a publishing professional and educator with a unique dedication to explaining copyright laws and their applications to non-lawyer audiences. As a writer, editor, and publisher of books and magazines, he has spoken and written extensively on copyright issues for diverse audiences of professionals, educators, government regulators, and students. He currently teaches criminal intellectual property law at Arizona State University.
This book presents a fresh perspective that covers copyright law (as well as introductions to trademarks and patents) but also focuses on over forty-five unique creative expressions ranging from architecture to dance, poetry to computer programs and even needlework. The book is an essential tool against piracy, unwanted borrowing, and copying for individuals in crafts, graphic arts, needlework, clothing, performing arts, social media, visual arts, technology, and writing. Whether they are a professional, gig-worker, or hobbyist, creative people need to read this book.
