Food insecurity is an ongoing issue especially for seniors and children in Memphis and other neighborhoods in Tennessee. According to Hope in Action magazine, Memphis has the highest senior food insecurity rate in the nation. It has become a source of concern for many individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies as they seek measures to combat the food insecurity facing Memphis residents. One of the many organizations striving to see a Memphis that is free from food insecurity is Jesus Walks founded by retired U.S. Merchant Marine Xavier Washington.
Jesus Walks is committed to joining the movement to combat food insecurity in Memphis, Tennessee and other parts of the United States. Xavier Washington was motivated to set up Jesus Walks having experienced the pain of being underprivileged and unable to access food. He aims to prove to the world that with Jesus, fashion, and the support of well-meaning individuals and bodies, food insecurity in Memphis and by extension, other parts of the United States can be eliminated.
The organization is excited to announce the launch of its Blood of Jesus sneakers and the 2023 By Faith designer clothing. Both products will be unveiled at the Fashion of Christ fashion show which would be held in Memphis, Tennessee and can be watched on Facebook Live via https://www.facebook.com/groups/jesuswalkskickstartergroup/?ref=share.
“I understand what it means to not know where your next meal will come from,” explained Xavier Washington, Founder of Jesus Walks. “After retiring from the U.S. Merchant Marine, I became homeless. This was during the pandemic. My life took a downhill turn and I could not salvage the situation. Then I met Jesus. He led me from being homeless and hungry to starting my business. Today, Jesus Walks inspires a move to give back to undervalued communities through fashion. I’m truly excited by what we’re doing. Our Blood of Jesus sneakers and By Faith designer collection are part of our plans to help communities suffering from food insecurity, especially in Tennessee. A portion of proceeds from the sales of these products will go toward helping these communities fight food disparity.”
After the project is unveiled, a Kickstarter campaign would be launched where part of the proceeds from the sale of the Blood of Jesus sneakers and By Faith designer collection will be donated towards giving back to underprivileged communities to combat food disparities.
