Schneider Electric enhances smart manufacturing in UAE as it seeks to support sustainability initiatives

Ahmed Khashan, Gulf Cluster President, Schneider Electric, speaks to Utilities Middle East about its role in enabling efficiency in manufacturing processes and the company’s overall sustainability strategy

Could you share more about how Schneider Electric is working alongside the UAE government to enhance the nation’s manufacturing sector?

Our partnership with Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure aims to explore ways to boost the nation’s efforts to achieve a sustainable industrial base.

Our company’s efforts will help enhance energy efficiency in the industrial sector in the lead-up to COP28, set to take place later this year.

We have made a concerted effort to assess and enhance the manufacturing landscape in the UAE. Through a collaborative initiative with the UAE government, we surveyed 46 manufacturing facilities in the nation operating across sectors such as energy, metals, food and beverage, chemicals, paper and wood, and other segments.

The nationwide findings indicated the manufacturing facilities included in the survey are ahead of the average in the smart utilization, monitoring and energy management.

Through this collaboration, we have established our pivotal role in supporting the UAE’s manufacturing sector in its journey to become greener, more energy efficient, and ultimately net-zero.

What initiatives has Schneider Electric undertaken in the renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing fields in the UAE?

As a global leader in energy management and industrial automation, we serve customers in over 100 countries, with the Gulf region being a priority and growth region for us.

We help our partners and customers in this region achieve energy management in a sustainable, efficient and safe manner. We signed partnerships to enhance efficiency within UAE’s industrial sector, the results of which are here to see for everyone today.

In addition to our ongoing partnership with the UAE government, we joined forces – last year – with UAE-based Arab Development Establishment (ARDECO) to manufacture power and energy technology solutions in the nation.

As part of the agreement, Schneider Electric will manufacture a range of highly advanced energy automation solutions and integrated power solutions, including production switchgear and control panel integrations, as well as energy automation design and engineering.

How is Schneider Electric aligning with the UAE’s vision for sustainability and energy efficiency?

Our partnerships and initiatives are key to driving our efforts in sustainability and energy efficiency. With it being the Year of Sustainability in the UAE, the time is ripe for us to showcase our adoption of innovative new technologies and to create partnerships with industry players and government leaders to drive sustainable change.

UAE is primed to become a global industrial hub by 2031, and we are committed to this national vision. We are confident that our commitment to empowering UAE’s manufacturing sector will boost innovation and the drive for sustainable energy solutions locally, regionally and globally.

Moreover, our efforts are aligned with the UAE Energy Plan 2050, which aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 70 per cent, increase clean energy use by 50 per cent and improve energy efficiency by 40 per cent, resulting in savings worth AED700 billion ($190.6 billion).
