June 21, 2023 – Krystal Allen, Founder & CEO of K. Allen Consulting, announces her book, What Goes Unspoken: How School Leaders Address DEI Beyond Race. In a sea of diversity, equity, and inclusion dialogue, Allen’s book bridges the gap between theory and action between the “what” and “how” of understanding, embracing, and applying DEI. 

As a native of historic Selma, Alabama, Allen grew up in a space where discourse of social justice advocacy and activism was as normal for her as learning how to read a map. Her background led her to found K. Allen Consulting, an international education and management consulting firm that provides customized workshops, strategic planning services, and executive coaching. They serve nonprofits, school systems, government agencies, small businesses, and major corporations.

What Goes Unspoken: How School Leaders Address DEI Beyond Race, is her first book. “I am excited to share the incredible news of my first book’s release,” says Krystal Allen, “As a former school principal and teacher, current full-time education and management consultant, and now published author, this text has a true labor of love.”

Within the book, Allen shares her subject matter expertise, but also her lived experiences from her journey as a first generation college graduate, a Black female educator, an educational leader, a charter school board member, an education consultant, an education advocate and philanthropist, and also a governing member of various education nonprofit boards.

Krystal Allen

Krystal Allen is the Founder & CEO of K. Allen Consulting™, an education advocate, philanthropist, and author of What Goes Unspoken: How School Leaders Address DEI Beyond Race. 

A native of Selma, Alabama, Allen is a well-respected former school principal and teacher. She began her career teaching elementary school, serving as an instructional coach, then asst. principal, and finally leading as a school principal.  Most recently featured in TIME Magazine, she is a 2019 Gambit 40 Under 40 recipient, a 2019 Aspen Institute Ideas Festival Scholar, the 2016 Urban League of Louisiana Activist Award recipient, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Kid Smart; Success at Thurgood Marshall; and the Selma Center for Nonviolence.

A first-generation college graduate, Krystal earned her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, M.Ed. from NLU-Chicago, and is currently completing her Ed.D in K-12 Urban Educational Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University. Krystal’s work and passion for DEI, social justice, adult learning, and organizational development are the driving forces of her work and commitment to equity.
