Houston – August 11, 2023 – Words matter during an emergency, and how the words are used can take on a new meaning when it comes to life-saving care. Thanks to a new book, paramedics and other first responders now have a new strategy for using hypnosis to reduce pain, promote healing, and relax, unifying the mind-body connection to improve patient outcomes. Professor Four Arrows and Paramedic Bram Duffee announce the rollout of their new book “Hypnotic Communication in Emergency Medical Settings: For Life-Saving and Therapeutic Outcomes.” The hypnosis and communication concepts are fully researched, referenced, and field tested by both authors with the goal of transforming care for individuals dealing with emergency or acute distress.
The basis of the book is described as the “Fear Hypothesis,” which supposes all acutely ill emergency patients experience a hypnotic trance that is brought on psychologically by the life-threatening event. Providing a step-by-step guide to using these skills around a range of contexts, from managing pain to cardiovascular emergencies to burns to respiratory distress, the book asks paramedics and first responders to become aware of what they say to patients, as well as how they say it. It offers ways to allow targeted communication to complement standard medical procedures, creating a symbiotic rapport that will provide the basis for an improved outcome for the patient.
Duffee and Four Arrows are incredibly proud of this project and eagerly anticipate their impact on the EMS community. They welcome interview inquiries, speaking opportunities, and scholarship connections.
