Upcycling Denim: Local Retiree Creates Handmade Handbags from Old Jeans

Local retiree Lidia has found a unique way to upcycle old jeans into beautiful handmade handbags. Using jeans from brands like Wrangler, Levis and other brands, Lidia creates one-of-a-kind bags that are both stylish and sustainable.

Lidia loves to do embroidery and AI art, so many of her bags feature images of her favorite pets, dogs and cats. She also loves to upcycle denim because it is sourced from renewable materials, and by giving these jeans a second life, she is helping to keep them from going into landfills around the world.

Lidia started her business after retirement, as a way to heal her paralyzed left eye via exercise through sewing. This is her second year sewing denim handbags and she is expanding her line. Her bags are featured at craft shows in New Jersey and on her website, at LidiasBags.shop

“I love to create something beautiful out of something that would otherwise be thrown away,” said Lidia. “It’s a great way to express my creativity and help the environment at the same time.”

Lidia’s handbags are a great way to show off your style while also helping the environment. Each bag is unique and handmade with love, so you can be sure that you’re getting a one-of-a-kind piece.

“I’m so proud of the work I do,” said Lidia. “I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they see my bags. It’s a great feeling to know that I’m making a difference in the world.”
