Historically termed as “Zhide Mingbang” (meaning a place with high moral character and profound cultural accumulation), Meicun has garnered the reputation of “Jiangnan’s premier ancient town”. The village retains numerous historical sites and cultural relics, including the Taibo Temple, Taibo Well, “Zhide Mingbang” Archway, Meili Archaeological Museum, and the first artificial canal in Jiangnan – Bodu River.

As the cradle of Wu culture, Meicun is heralded as a province of poetry, literature, rites, and music, serving as an educational stronghold in Jiangsu Province and rightfully earning the title of “The hometown of Erhu”. As early as 1965, Meicun founded its ethnic instrument factory, marking the commencement of erhu production in the village.TNow, the first “Erhu Cultural Park” in China that integrates the functions of Erhu history and culture, production technology, performance hall, and training and activity base has been established here, as well as the Erhu Industrial Park covering five major regions, including Erhu Workshop, Meili Meili Cultural and Creative Store, Meicun Erhu Live Broadcasting Room, Performance Hall, and Wu Yunxue Hall.
