From 2007 to 2015, U.S. computer storage device imports showed mixed dynamics. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by a period of fluctuations over the next two years, until imports hiked in 2012. However, in 2013, imports turned downwards and recorded a steady decline over the last three years. During a hike in 2012, imports temporarily overcame the peak level of 2007. Thailand significantly strengthened its position in U.S. imports, from 22% in 2007 to 40% in 2015. By contrast, China saw its share reduced by -1 percentage point to 29%.
From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net importer of computer storage devices. However, exports grew faster than imports on average over the period under review.
The U.S. trade deficit in this sector recorded several fluctuations, but, generally, improved over the recent years, declining from 7,039 million USD in 2012 to 5,870 million USD in 2014.
