St. Charles Author Geries Shaheen Explores Faith and Struggle in book ‘Edgar Phirst’

In the heart of St. Charles, Missouri, LPC Geries Shaheen weaves a captivating narrative in his book, “Edgar Phirst- An Interplanetary Psychodrama.” I had the privilege of delving into the mind behind this interstellar psychodrama through an exclusive interview with Shaheen, a seasoned Mental Health Therapist, and former Program Director with a profound commitment to community service.

Having spent a significant part of his career in various roles within healthcare nonprofits, including his current position at a well known national healthcare network, Shaheen’s dedication to improving lives is evident. His experiences, especially in a substance recovery home for young adult males, provided him with a unique perspective on hope and the complex definition of success.

The core theme of “Edgar Phirst” resonates with Shaheen’s own observations – the power of hope to propel individuals forward. Drawing parallels to his Christian upbringing and education at Lincoln Christian University, Shaheen sees hope as a force that propels faith and missions. The protagonist’s journey mirrors the struggles faced by many – daily defeats intertwined with a tenacious hold on hope.

As a resident of St. Charles, Shaheen highlights the community’s remarkable emphasis on meeting the needs of its members. He observes how churches, taxes, and spontaneous collaborations among individuals work synergistically to improve lives. Shaheen believes that understanding the perspective of those in need is crucial for impacting a community positively, a sentiment mirrored in Edgar’s fictitious yet relatable story.

What sets “Edgar Phirst” apart is its dual purpose – not only does it offer readers a glimpse into a world where faith is restricted, but it also supports mental health services. A portion of the book sale proceeds goes towards Pioneer Counseling, Shaheen’s non-profit private practice, demonstrating his commitment to giving back.

In this psychodrama, Shaheen invites readers to appreciate the struggles of a young homeless man, urging us to see the potential impact on a community that restricts faith. “Edgar Phirst” emerges not just as a captivating tale but as a vehicle for promoting understanding, empathy, and support for mental health services in the community.
