How To Improve The Surface Abrasion Resistance Of Pa6 Materials

Polyamide resin, abbreviated as PA, is commonly known as nylon. It is a macromolecular main chain repeating units containing amide groups in the polymer of the general term. The five engineering plastics in the largest production, the most varieties, the most widely used varieties, and other polymer blends and alloys, etc., meet different special requirements, widely used as a substitute for metal, wood, and other traditional materials.

PA6 is a nylon material, whose mechanical strength is relatively high but lower than PA66; tensile strength, surface hardness, and rigidity are higher than other nylon plastics, and impact resistance and flexibility than PA66.

PA6 nylon plastic industrial production is widely used in the manufacture of bearings, round gears, cams, bevel gears, a variety of rollers, pulleys, pump impellers, fan blades, worm gears, propellers, screws, nuts, gaskets, high-pressure seals, oil-resistant gaskets, oil-resistant containers, housings, hoses, cable sheathing, and daily necessities and packaging film and so on.

PA6 is commonly used in injection molding, extrusion molding, and other processing methods. During processing, PA6 may have some common problems, including:

Poor melt flow: PA6 has a high melt viscosity, which easily leads to poor melt flow and affects the molding quality of the product. Melt fluidity can be improved by adjusting the processing temperature and increasing the injection pressure.

Large shrinkage: PA6 will have large shrinkage in the cooling process, which will easily lead to unstable product size or deformation. Shrinkage can be reduced by rationally designing the mold structure and controlling the cooling speed.

Bubbles and porosity: In injection molding, PA6 may produce bubbles and porosity due to gas residue or poor melt flow, affecting the surface quality of the product. The generation of bubbles and porosity can be reduced by optimizing the mold structure and increasing the melt temperature.

Surface wear resistance: PA6 is prone to scratches during injection molding or extrusion, which affects the quality of the product and thus reduces the service life of the product. In PA6 pelleting processing can add the appropriate amount of silicone masterbatch, through the modification of PA6 material, to improve the processing performance of PA6 particles, to avoid the quality of products affected.

SILIKE Surface wear resistance Silicone Masterbatch ——Helping the development of the engineering plastics industry

SILIKE Silicone Masterbatch LYSI-407 is a pelletized formulation with 30% ultra-high molecular weight siloxane polymer dispersed in Polyamide-6 ( PA6 ). It is widely used as an efficient additive for PA6-compatible resin systems to improve the processing properties and surface quality, such as better resin flow ability, mold filling & release, less extruder torque, lower coefficient of friction, and greater mar and abrasion resistance.

What are the advantages of adding the right amount of SILIKE Silicone Masterbatch LYSI-407 in the granulation process?

(1) Improve processing properties including better flow ability, reduced extrusion die drool, less extruder torque, better molding filling & release

(2) Improve surface quality like surface slip and lower Coefficient of friction.

(3) Greater abrasion & scratch resistance

(4) Faster throughput, reduce product defect rate.

(5) Enhance stability compared with traditional processing aids or lubricants

What are the areas of application of SILIKE Silicone Masterbatch LYSI-407?

(1) PA6, PA66 compounds

(2) Glass fiber PA compounds

(3) Engineering plastics

(4) Other PA-compatible systems

SILIKE LYSI series silicone masterbatch may be processed in the same way as the resin carrier on which they are based. It can be used in classical melt blending processes like Single /Twin screw extruders, and injection molding. A physical blend with virgin polymer pellets is recommended.

Different additive amount has different effects, if you want to improve the processing performance and surface performance of engineering plastics raw materials, you can contact SILIKE, and we can provide you with efficient solutions to make your products more competitive.
