91-Year-old Resident Publishes Second Book and Promotes Icelandic Heritage

July, Illinois – Iceland native and Morton, Illinois resident, Ieda Jonasdottir Herman, has an energy in her 90s many of us would be envious of in our 70s.  She credits her vitality to her Scandinavian heritage, or Viking blood as she is fond of saying, a natural curiosity, and constant movement. The release of her newest book, The Silver Arrow (IBSN: 978-1535203623) is the result of her most recent efforts.

The Silver Arrow is a Young Adult adventure story, where Ieda shares the Icelandic experience using the landscape, culture, and Nordic mythology to weave an entertaining tale that carries a special message.  “I wrote this book to help with closure in times of loss. In Iceland, so many family members are lost to the sea. They simply never come home again, and it’s as if they never were. In this story, three young teens seek to find answers and come to terms with the loss,” says Ieda Jonasdottir Herman.

Ieda uses her books to promote education and interest in Iceland and the culture.  Her first book, Trolls-Monster Worm-Hidden People: Fond Memories of Iceland is an autobiographic account of growing up in the 1930’s in Iceland.  This newest work of fiction is set in Iceland, incorporating prominent landmarks into the story.

Mrs. Herman has several appearances slated at local libraries in Central Illinois to speak on Icelandic culture and a book signing scheduled at I Know You Like A Book, at 4707 N. Prospect in Peoria Heights, Illinois on Saturday, June 30th from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Ieda has already started drafting the sequel to The Silver Arrow, which she will resume work on after she returns from a two-week trip to Iceland in August.
