Brandon Glenn, Knoxville Firefighter/Paramedic, Introduces Innovative Medic Notebook: BG Medic Notes

Knoxville, IA – Brandon Glenn, a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Knoxville Fire Department in Marion County, has announced the launch of BG Medic Notes, a groundbreaking notebook designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of patient information gathering in emergency medical situations. Developed from Glenn’s own experiences on the front lines, BG Medic Notes is already being utilized by on-duty crews, students, and hospital staff.

Glenn, who also serves as a Firefighter, created BG Medic Notes while attending the Des Moines Area Community College Paramedic Program. Working for Clive and West Des Moines Fire Departments in Polk County during the height of the pandemic, Glenn experienced firsthand the challenges of acquiring and retaining critical patient information while simultaneously providing care. He quickly realized the limitations of existing methods, from writing on gloves (which smeared) to using standard notebooks (which often resulted in forgotten questions).

“During my time in paramedic school and on the job, I saw how crucial accurate patient information is for effective emergency medical assessment,” Glenn explained. “In the hectic environment of an EMS call, it can be difficult to remember all the necessary questions, especially when you’re performing hands-on skills. I needed a system that would ensure I never missed a vital detail.”

BG Medic Notes solves this problem by providing a structured format that prompts medics to gather essential information, including patient medications, allergies, and medical history. This comprehensive approach helps ensure that critical details are captured and communicated effectively to receiving hospital staff, ultimately leading to better patient care.

“My goal with BG Medic Notes is to equip every medic with the tools they need to provide the best possible care,” Glenn added. “This notebook is designed to streamline the information gathering process, reduce errors, and improve communication between EMS personnel and hospital staff.”

Knoxville Fire and Rescue, which has responded to over 2,400 calls in 2024, is currently using BG Medic Notes with on-duty crews, students, and hospital staff, demonstrating the notebook’s practical value and widespread applicability.
