New York, NY – This year, Thanksgiving will be a little brighter for our fellow New Yorkers who are in need. According to the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, 1.5 million people in New York live in food insecure homes. As Thanksgiving is traditionally associated with giving back to those less fortunate, this November, for the seventh year in a row, the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive is set to take place in Brooklyn – and spread the true meaning of Thanksgiving to the local community.
On Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016, Meda Leacock of IAmWondaWoman Foundation, Philanthropist Charlene Thomas, and Deon Grant of the Grant Foundation will be joined by popular celebrities, distinguished personalities, community leaders and local businesses, at the Ingersoll Community Center from 6:30pm – 9:00pm, to provide free turkeys to the community of Brooklyn.
The annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive demonstrates the strong social bonds among members of the Brooklyn community and its friends, who come together, unite their powers and show kindness, compassion and generosity to their less fortunate fellow citizens, so that they, too, can participate in Thanksgiving festivities.
As with every annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, numerous celebrities have expressed their support and will personally appear at the event to raise awareness of hunger in New York and help in giving out free turkeys to those in need. Among the celebrities attending this year’s Annual Turkey Giveaway will be NY Giants’ Jay Bromley; Super Bowl Champions Deon Grant, Raheem Brock & Darrel Reid; Recording Artists Maino, Lil Mama, Lil Cease, Tek (Smif & Wessun), Jimmy Cozier; NY Times Best Selling Author Teri Woods, and Author Tashera Simmons.
