Multi-Gold & Platinum music producer, Donald XL Robertson, has released a new album titled A Village Named Seneca.
The Grammy-nominated mastering engineer revealed that he made the full-length album, after learning that key sections of Central Park were built on top of a black community named Seneca Village.
According to historical accounts, the city of New York used eminent domain to purchase land originally belonging to the Village of Seneca in 1855, driving the residents and landowners out of their homes, after allegedly shortchanging them by paying compensations far less than the real value of their properties.
Donald XL Robertson‘s 11 track masterpiece is a Jazz album with chill vibes, documenting his discovery at the park, starting at Sixth & Central to walking deep into the park to the area where Seneca Village once was.
“I created this album to tell the largely untold story of the thriving – mostly Black populated – village of Seneca, torn down to make room for America’s first major landscaped public park. Each song on the album points out a landmark, guiding the listeners to the Seneca Village location.”
A village Named Seneca was produced under the record label The BeatTape Factory, with XLP / Downtown Music Services firmly clenching the album’s distribution rights.
Although scheduled to be released worldwide on the 6th of May, 2022, A village Named Seneca is currently exclusively available on www.xlproductionz.com.
