Los Angeles, CA – November 13, 2017 – Tom Kiesche is a veteran professional actor, and published writer. He is known for appearing in hit shows such as, Breaking Bad, Bones, C.S.I. and many more, as well as literally dozens of national commercials.
His latest venture includes the release of his fourth book, Weakday Drifter & Other Writings.
Weakday Drifter & Other Writings is a spattering of some of the works that were created, imagined, and/or performed during a time when Kiesche was bumping along the bottom, pursuing an acting career in New York City. They are the semi-organized ramblings of a lost, frustrated, developing “creative” with the heart of an artist and the work ethic of a mad scientist.
“I suspect that by the time most of us non-multi-millionaires hit our mid-twenties…after slogging through school and part-time jobs far below our intellects and capabilities, many of us have experienced what I’m referring to as a ‘weakday.’ One of those days when everything feels like it’s against us when the universe seems to be telling us to just retreat back home and hide under our comforters… A weak day,” Kiesche.
Most of the writings in this collection were penned around 1995. By that time Kiesche had quit a successful corporate career, cashed in his 401k, and literally spent all his savings to pursue acting.
“Writing was a potential ticket out of poverty, a way to cope with the strange new life that I had chosen, and an escape from the reality that wasn’t living up to my expectations,” Kiesche.
“This collection is nowhere close to everything I wrote during that time, but is a mixed genre spattering of entertainment, short stories, poems, essays, and one-act plays, many of them inspired from the very first story in this book, “Weekday Drifter.” The collection is a fun look back into a time capsule, and maybe a little more than that,” Kiesche.
Since those early, acting years with help, passion, and hard work, Kiesche has achieved many aspects of his dreams—more than he ever thought possible.
“These writings are very personal and meaningful to me. I hope they will entertain and resonate with you,” stated Kiesche.
Samples from the Book:
- All stories have a beginning and I guess this one started with a Saturday union/non-union, any-schmuck-can-go, open call audition for a new Francis Ford Coppola film. The movie would be based on a classic piece of literature, written by Jack Kerouac, On The Road. A novel some have referred to as “the book that defined the Beat Generation.”
- “You are a bacterial infection from under a toilet seat,” the Principal said and then laughed loudly. “And I am from the planet Uriz. I am amazed that you, such a little creature, but large compared to others of a similar age and species figured it out. All so-called humans are living on the underside of a toilet in an all-male dormitory in a college. And the only reason your race has lasted this long is because they have very long semesters, and no one ever cleans. But once the semester is over, I will regain my full size, transport back to Uriz, and this planet and everything and everyone you know will be wiped off the under-face of the seat.”
- A mug his ex-girlfriend gave him after they officially broke up. They had been broken up but were still sparking together, because they were addicted to the sex.
- My uncle once said, “When you camp in the frozen tundra of the Arctic, you’re always grateful whenever you cross paths with a stranger—no matter how big of an asshole he may be. But if you crossed paths in a city, you’d never talk or even look at one another. In the city, there’s a good chance the two of you would hate each other, because of color, sex, the way one of you dressed, talked, walked, smelled, or no reason at all.”
- What kind of yield are they hoping for? Six plants. It hardly seems worth a year’s subscription for six small tomato plants. Sure, anything worth doing is worth doing right, but they’ve grown tomatoes for years and never needed tips from the pros before. Have my parents entered a new era, an era where they subscribe to magazines just to look at pictures or enter sweepstakes?
Readers will be surprised by the creativity, imagination, and honesty found in this book…and the first reviews of Weakday Drifter & Other Writings are already proving that.
✯✯✯✯✯ Strong stories in Weakday Drifter will turn you into a fan “The stories range from drama to pure comedy, ending, in the masterful Bed and Break Fast, a suspense tale that builds gradually and gradually until the bloody denouement. I enjoyed some of the stories more than others – usually the case in anthologies, even when they are stories written by the same author, but they were all excellent reads. My favorites were the aforementioned Bed and Break Fast and the hilarious Symphony Obesophobia.” – B.A. Peterson
✯✯✯✯✯ Hitting the Road, and other Journeys “It’s interesting to read just what was going on in Tom Kiesche’s mind during his twenties in New York. This collection of short stories and poetry are quirky, funny, sad, heartwarming and on occasion downright scary. But, more than that, Tom takes you along for his journey of self-discovery. Wonderful book! – Jack Kusler.
✯✯✯✯✯ Really great read! Again!! “While some of these stories are journal entries, others are plays written by Mr. Kiesche (LOVE the one with the Cockroaches!!!!)… All of these were written at a time when Kiesche took a tremendous leap of faith and made a complete life change in his mid-twenties to follow his dreams. This book is such fun!… Kiesche’s stream of conscious style will keep you entertained. Go get a glass of wine, get comfy and enjoy!” – J.C. Singing
