BIRMINGHAM, MI, April 18th, 2016–International ADHD expert, author, psychotherapist Terry Matlen of Birmingham, won the prestigious IPPY award for her book, “The Queen of Distraction: How Women with ADHD Can Conquer Chaos, Find Focus, and Get More Done.”
The book won the Bronze Award in the category of Self-Help. Published by New Harbinger Publications, it has been well received by experts in the field as well as readers themselves and has ranked #1 in Amazon’s special-needs hyperactivity category.
“I wanted to offer women with ADHD not only specific tools on how to manage everyday life with ADHD, but also to help them understand that their disorganization, memory issues and chaos is due to a true medical condition we call ADHD. I hoped that by reading this book, women with ADHD would understand that they are not alone in their struggles”, says Matlen.
Matlen knows: she herself has ADHD and has devoted her entire career in helping other women manage their lives with this condition.
“It feels great when your work is being recognized by earning a prestigious book award like the IPPY. Through my book, my hope is that all women who are challenged by ADHD will realize that they are not alone and that there are specific ways to make life easier”, stated the award-winning author, ADHD expert and psychotherapist.
An internationally recognized speaker on women with ADHD, Matlen is one among the handful of clinicians and authors around the globe who specializes and understands the specific struggles women with ADHD face. As a woman with ADHD herself, she understands first-hand the issues involved in living with ADHD and she looks forward to helping out others, like her by offering pragmatic solutions on managing the condition in an organized and meaningful way.
“Understanding my own ADHD and how it affects me, changed my entire life for the better and now I hope to share real tools and techniques to combat the stresses in daily life so that women like me can succeed in all areas of life, whether it’s organizing your home, or parenting your child or maintaining a balance in the workplace. My goal is to show my readers that they aren’t lazy, crazy or have a character flaw- it’s just how your brain is wired and there are ways to make your life easier and more fulfilling”, she explained, adding how her readers worldwide feel relieved after reading the book, knowing that they are no longer alone in their fight against ADHD.
