January 10, 2019 – A.L. Green Williams, an accomplished author, and painter has launched a new book titled Playtime at Grandma’s House. This enchanting book is a collection of nostalgic memories and vivid fantasies of a little girl named Whitlee at her grandmother’s house.
Green Williams had an impressive childhood in the company of a grandmother and her dolls; this book is a wonderful mix of reality and fantasy. The quaint little shed adjoining grandma’s home and the mirthful tea party with her dolls are all the substance of children’s imagination.
The book captures the warmth and spirit of grandparental concern. It is this which makes childhood the most memorable and enjoyable in our mundane life. As the pain of reality begins to creep in with advancing age, childhood is one period in our life which everyone enjoys. Naturally, it is also the time when a child’s personality evolves. That is the reason why Green Williams’ books reflect the thoughtful quotes of Martin Luther King, “Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education.”
Green Williams was born in South Central Los Angeles, California. Like the character in her book, she too had spent her childhood from the age of 4 to 14 in her grandmother’s home. The author’s memorable experiences and that of her grandchild had inspired her to write on a brief but passing phase called childhood in our life.
The happy childhood not only spurs the imagination during adulthood, but also gives a balanced approach to life. The importance of values gets internalized, and life becomes purposeful and meaningful. Readers of this book will find shades of evidence in Green William’s life. She is not only a creative person, but also an ordained minister following the way of the cross.
Playtime at Grandma’s House is therefore not merely a collection of memories of a rosy childhood, but also reflects the security and certainty of impressionable age in our life. As the years pass by, people look back fondly of the days gone by and which may never be experienced again. It is this which makes this book of enduring value as it caters to the child hidden deep in the crevices of their memory.
