An unknown film from India is making a buzz in America

A fresh film made by a first-time director from India Balakrishna P Subbiah, strangely titled The Lone Wolf is beginning to cause a buzz amongst in America and parts of Europe and Asia.

The film is a complex journey into the mind of a radical Islamic Jihadist we often refer to as The Lone Wolf. Despite not screening at festivals (which could be due to the theme itself), the film went straight into sales and distribution, picked up for sales directly by Little House Studio Films based in Beverly Hills, California and Leomark Films in the United States.

The film is a complex journey into the mind of a radical Islamic Jihadist we often refer to as The Lone Wolf. A must watch for those involved, interested or active in the field of Counterterrorism and work related to Homeland Security.

Though the film is based on true events, the director at no point makes an attempt to align his main protagonist towards any Religion despite certain references being inevitable. The story begins in a remote area at the India-Pakistan border near Punjab from where a group of Terrorists try to cross in, via a barbed fence and are shot down by the Border Security Force. Except for One. Abu Aatif who digs his way through an underground canal the terrorists explode and make it into an unseen pathway. Days later, he finds refuge in the house of a transgender who helps him recover, takes care of his health and feeds him without knowing that she is raising a poisonous snake who is on a mission to carry out an attack.

The Actor who plays the Terrorist, Deepak Sharma in his first film is a supermodel based in Australia and the face of Audi – a household automobile brand. He blends into his character with ease and silent brilliance. Deepak SharmaŹ¼s portrayal of Aatif the terrorist takes the film to a different level altogether and the film has been shot lyrically by Shobith Sharma who handles the camera for a feature for the first time.

The Lone Wolf is about a young man who left his country at a very young age, settled down in Australia and educated himself to a very high degree post which he suddenly moves to Syria via contacts made via the Dark Web – The director’s statement is right there – The power of radicalization can hit anybody at any time – Anywhere. Trained by the ISIS, he is tasked with bombing and moves to the Khorasan province in Afghanistan from where he moves to Pakistan and is helped by members of a terrorist organization to cross over into mainland India.

He is intelligent, highly skilled and radicalized enough where his deranged mind is unable to see anything except the journey to heaven by killing himself which happens to be the edict of the Islamic State. Eventually, he eliminates the hands that fed him in a brutal manner which when viewed could cause temporary Neuralgia and moves away onwards and towards accomplishing his mission.

Then comes the twist.

The film is well supported by Kalki Subramaniam who in real life is a transgender activist and painter and adds great authenticity to the film and actor Sandeep Pednekar who plays the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. But Kudos to the Director and actor Deepak Sharma for taking on a role which most would refuse as a first timer and bringing to the world a vision and an insight into the mind of a ALone Wolf terrorist who could be lurking anywhere at any time.

Highly recommended for those who can stomach the evil that acts of terror bring along with it. The film is enhanced by the voice of famed Indian classical singer Seema Uniyal from New Delhi giving the film that “Rosemary’s Baby sting; up the spine”. Kalashnikov – the working title of the film has now been changed to The Lone Wolf by its distributors with good reason. It won the Best Director award at the Dadasaheb Film Festival held in New Delhi last week, which is one of India’s most prestigious awards.

The Lone Wolf was conceived by the Executive producers along with one of the best film critics ever, the late. Roger Ebert in 2012 during one of their meetings in South East Asia-where he claimed to have stated that the film was Highly futuristic, Surreal yet real and hoped that it got made.

Well, it has and it has made a serious point.

Australian born actor Deepak Sharma plays a deadly Terrorist in his first film – THE LONE WOLF.
