Ángela Quijada-Banks is an American best-selling author and the founder of the Soulful Liberation podcast. The passionate foster youth advocate recently took her foster youth empowerment initiative a notch higher with the release of The Black Foster Youth Handbook. The book is meant to serve as a guide to readers, as the author reveals tips for navigating through foster care and healing beyond it.
Foster care remains an important part of society. Unfortunately, very little attention is paid to the travails of young people in foster care. Recent reports have revealed that less than 5% of young people with foster care experience graduate post-secondary education. These unfortunate statistics can be attributed to the lack of care in the system, leading youth to become victims of sex-trafficking and mental health patients. The injustice in the system and white supremacy have worsened the case, which is where Ángela Quijada-Banks is looking to raise awareness about the plight of young brown/black children in foster care.
In The Black Foster Youth Handbook, Ángela shares over 50 lessons she learned to successfully AGE-OUT of foster care and Holistically Heal, shedding light on a taboo topic through her personal experience. The book is part of her life’s purpose and goal of giving back to society, as she reveals some of the untold stories of foster care and how youth can come out to become successful, thriving and joyful adults.
The guide is ideal for all stakeholders in the system, including foster/resource parents, case managers, GALs, therapists, and social workers. The book has already started to receive accolades from different categories of readers, with the likes of different organizations all across the nation including SAYSO Inc and Foster Youth In Action endorsing it.
