Industry/Innovation/Related News:
July 16, 2019 — Mercedes-Benz (Germany), a global automobile marque, announced the development of an Electric vehicle warning sounds to alert pedestrians that can meet the new European Union (EU) legal act. A new EU Directive articulates the installation of the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) in certified, hybrid, electric and fuel cell vehicles, including trucks and buses for the protection of pedestrians.
Electric vehicle warning sounds are designed to alert pedestrians about the presence and movement of e-drive vehicles, including HEVs, PHEVs, and all-electric vehicles. Special microphones are being installed in the exterior to develop an individually configured e-sound for each electric model. The automotive giant also confirms that its AVAS sound differs for markets like EU, Japan, and China and switching off the AVAS by the customer is prohibited in almost all countries.
