John Hayes, Director of Sales for BALYO, a leader in innovative robotic solutions for material handling, recently discussed the importance navigating vendor-buyer relationships in Forbes. Read the recent article here.
Last month, Hayes walked the floor of the Georgia World Congress Center and spoke with many of the 850 vendors exhibiting at the MODEX material handling show. Sadly, there were empty promises being made about new high-tech products, guarantees of Industry 4.0 integration without a shred of evidence, and lots of selling the sizzle.
When pressed for hard answers to questions like, “When will the product be delivered?” there was much equivocation and few honest and forthright truth-tellers. But because the messaging is increasingly competitive, the claims and hyperbole grew ever more ridiculous. It’s a simple question never answered simply.
Customers need to be rigorous in the sales inquiry process. Customers must also be careful not to waste vendors’ time preparing requests for quotes when the vendor selection has already been made. This is about being fair and respectful. According to Hayes, it is best to have real discussions early in the process that have an impact.
Hayes is a proud member of the Forbes Business Development Council, an invitation-only organization for senior-level sales and business development executives. Members are respected leaders and executives who are selected for the council based on the depth and diversity of experience in the business development space.
