Brasenhill Mansion Hosts Wine and Shine for Jane Aungst Shoe Fund

Lebanon, PA – There is always a reason to come together for a great cause. On September 7, 2016, the school nurses in Lebanon County Schools, the Lebanon County Council of Republican Women, and Kohl’s Department Store put together a new fund raising event in aid of the Jane Aungst Shoe Fund.

This campaign aims to provide shoes for children and has been continually done since its inception in 1985. It may seem the smallest of things, but there are some kids who lack this very basic need.

This drive started in September 1985, where Jane Aungst and RedithSnoberger launched the first event to fill this simple need. Since then, the fund has reached out to 1,643 children at a total cost of $54,829.75. Continuing these efforts this year are the Republican Women under Chair Person Josie Ames. The fundraiser is called Wine and Shine, as an expansion of a later fundraiser event named Wine and Chocolate.

Brasenhill Mansion hosted the event at 104 East Walnut Street in Lebanon, PA from 6 to 8 PM. The cost fell to $30 per person with all the proceeds going to the Jane Aungst Show Fund. The provisions were provided by local county businesses and guests were treated to the usual good pairings of beer, wine and spirits, chocolates, cheeses, and cupcakes.

But more than the good food and drinks, this affair is focused on bringing more awareness to the plight of children suffering from poverty, not only in Lebanon but across the country. According to statistics, there are 15 million children in the United States suffering from child poverty. This translates to 21% of children living with families below poverty and an even bigger 44% of children living in low-income families. This makes outreach programs and fundraisers important. For such a large number in need, every single piece of help counts. In reality, the families of these children are working and trying to give them the basic comforts required for life. However, certain factors make it difficult to make ends meet.

Studies show poverty has a grave impact on growing children. It has the potential to impede their ability to learn and also cause delays in social, emotional, and behavioral aspects of health. Naturally, the effects of these struggles will not only stay with the children in the moment, but will also play a role on how they develop and face life onwards. Indeed, poverty is a big threat to the well-being of children. Public policies are needed to safeguard their interests and make a difference. Investments in children, no matter how small, are also needed to increase their protection.

The Brasenhill Mansion was the perfect spot for this community changing event and has become the premier in special events and as a wedding venue. To ensure a fantastic event location or wedding reception venue, be sure to contact the knowledgeable staff at the Brasenhill Mansion.
