Every four years, CONMEBOL hosts the Copa America Tournament, which is the oldest football tournament in the world, and also the oldest football confederation too. It all started in 1916, and both the tournament and the organization celebrate their 100th anniversaries this summer. To mark this special achievement, the organization has created a once-in-a-lifetime event in partnership with CONCACAF.
What they have created is the Copa America Centenario Tournament that includes most of the football confederations of the Americas in a series of unprecedented matches starting on June 3 and running though June 26.
This revised Copa America Centenario Tournament sees 16 different teams competing in ten different venues throughout the United States. Traditionally, the entire tournament remains in South America, but this celebration marks the first time in history that the Copa is played on American soil.
