Dr. Stirling has been practicing for over 29 years and is currently serving patients as the Cardiothoracic Surgery Program Director at Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Grand Traverse located in Traverse City, Michigan. The Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Grand Traverse provide a comprehensive program consisting of an array of cardiothoracic surgical procedures at Munson Medical Center. Dr. Stirling initiated the cardiac surgery program at Munson Medical Center in 1990.
Dr. Stirling attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Following his graduation in 1979, he completed his internship, general surgery residency, research fellowship and cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Stirling is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and also in thoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. In order to remain within the scope of his practice, he maintains professional memberships with the American College of Surgeons, the American Thoracic Society, and the General Thoracic Surgical Club. Prior to medical school, he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1975 as Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude, as an Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry and with the Highest Honors.
Dr. Stirling has authored numerous major scientific papers and chapters in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. He credits his success to good training, honesty, teamwork and a good hospital environment. Classical music, history, literature, and theology are Dr. Stirling’s passions outside of medical practice.
